Research interests

Forest bird and butterfly communities and ecosystems (gradient analysis in montane shola forests and evergreen forests); Biodiversity and conservation, visual ecology, ecological indicators, wildlife trade.

Appointments and research experience

Principal Investigator : (August 17, 2011 onwards) in a project on “Strengthening capacity and awareness in the conservation of sacred groves in the Southern Western Ghats.” funded by UNEP- Eco Peace Leadership Centre, South Korea.

Assistant Professor : (July 2010 onwards) Teaching and guiding research students at Post Graduate Department of Zoology, MES Mampad College, Kerala.

Lecturer : (February 2009 – July 2010) Teaching and guiding research students at Post Graduate Department of Zoology, MES Mampad College, Kerala.

Principal Investigator (February 2010 onwards) “Developing a database on the select insect groups and evaluation of insects as bio-indicators of the ecosystem health in the Western Ghats.” A Major Research Project in sciences, funded by UGC.

Principal Investigator : (September 18, 2009 – December 30, 2010) in a project on “Evaluation of aquatic insect diversity in natural water-filled tree holes and their artificial analogues, in a tropical rainforest” funded by CEPF , USA .

1. Recipient of research grant of $ 9628 given by Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund- Conservation International, Arlington , United States of America through ATREE for a project on “Evaluation of aquatic insect diversity in natural water-filled tree holes and their artificial analogues, in a tropical rainforest”

2. Recipient of Biodiversity, Ecology and Health Fund award of $ 4816 being given annually by Wildlife Trust, New York , United States of America for a project on “Evaluation of Butterflies as ecological indicators, in Western Ghats , India ”.

3. Travel grant to attend the international Workshop, Hymenopteran Training Course, which is being organized at SWRS-Portal , Arizona , United States of America , from Department of Science & technology, Govt. of India. *

4. Equipment grant (Canon Digital SLR Camera) from the IDEA WILD, USA for the project on aquatic insects in natural tree-holes.

5. Scholarship to attend and present research findings at the British Ornithologist's Union annual conference (2008) at Leicester, given by AP Leventis Conservation Foundation, UK .*

6. United Nations Environment Program – 5 th Eco-peace Leadership Award, from S. Korea for a project on Sacred Grove conservation which includes the travel grants to South Korea and Small grant.
